Republican Governor Bill Haslam was elected in 2010.  Republicans control the state-house, as well as both houses of the Legislature,with 20-13 majority in the Senate and a 64-34 (plus one independent) majority in the House.  There will be 16 Senate seats and all 99 House seats will be up for election in 2012.

In 2012, as was in 2011, the Senate is led by Republican Speaker Ron Ramsey with Majority Leader Sen. Mark Norris and Minority Leader Sen. Jim Kyle.  The House is led by Republican Speaker Rep. Beth Harwell, with Majority Leader Rep Gerald McCormick and Minority Leader Greg Fitzhugh.  The 2011-2012 Tennessee State Legislative session willreconvene January 9, 2012.
