Democrats reclaimed the Governor’s Office in 2010 with the election of former Congressman Neil Abercrombie. Democrats still hold “veto proof” majorities in the Hawaii Legislature with 24 of 25 seats in the Senate and 43 of 51 seats in the House.There will be 10 Senate seats and all 51 House seats up for election in 2012.
In 2012, as was in 2011, the Senate is led by President Shan Tsutsui with Sen. BrickwoodGaluteria as Majority Leader and Sen. Sam Slom as Minority Leader. The House is led by Speaker Calvin K.Y. Say with Rep. Blake Oshiro as Majority Leader and Rep. Gene Ward as Minority Leader. The 2011-2012 Hawaii Legislative session will reconveneJanuary 17, 2012.
